4 Key Benefits of Offshore Wind

Offshore wind is coming to the US and to a coast near you! The US has lagged behind Europe and other countries in the development of offshore wind and other renewable energy sources. This is changing rapidly, especially now that President Biden is in office. He has pledged to spend $2 trillion in the next four years. It must first be approved by congress, but if it is, it could have positive impact for generations to come.

There are a lot of benefits to a growing offshore wind market here in the US. Here are 4 of the most important:

  • More Energy. Analysts say that we have the capacity with our shorelines to generate more than 2,000 gigawatts (GW) of power by harnessing offshore wind. This would almost double our current electricity use today.

  • More Jobs. Analysts also say that it could create almost 100,000 highly skilled and good paying jobs as well as deliver $25 billion dollars in annual economic output by the year 2030.  The jobs created is that with the massive need for skilled labor, it will give men and women that have been decimated by the oil and gas industry the opportunity to transition into a new field learn a new trade that will be around for a long time.

  • Major Economic Impact. This will also positively affect other industries in the process, namely manufacturing and shipbuilding, which will be directly supporting the industry.

  • Generational Environmental Impact. Finally, increasing our power generated from offshore wind will have generational implications with regards to the amount of pollution that will be eliminated & reduced.

The growth of the Offshore Wind industry in the US is about to accelerate. Investors, innovators, and workers should get on board now or risk being blown away.
