Committed to Growth

By Bob Sutton - Core Group Resources COO

When I started at Core Group Resources, I wasn’t thinking about growth. I was wondering, “How do I survive these next few months?” It was March of 2020, and the first wave of covid-19 was shutting down businesses across the country. Despite all my experience with recruiting, I couldn’t seem to gain traction. Core Group was not growing. We were stalled. Like nearly every other industry in the world, we were facing a bleak forecast.

The next few months, I saw something different happen. I saw our team members continue to hustle and stay in front of our clients. They were growing roots down deeper, building relationships. Several of our competitors closed their offices and took a 3-month break, surrendering to the pandemic. But that wasn’t Core Group. Though my recruiting skills weren’t being used, I started to focus on our internal systems. We created a new marketing plan, website, and outreach strategies. If you’re not growing, you’re dying. We kept growing.

Our 4th core value is “Committed to Growth.” It is a reminder for each of us that we as a company have lofty goals and that we must grow to achieve them. Even more though, it is a personal commitment to the hard work of individual growth. Everyone who comes through Core Group should leave better than before. This is a place for people to stretch and grow beyond what they thought possible. In 2020, I saw this and it was clear that this was a place I wanted to stay.

Fast forward to 2022. We have quadrupled in size – both in team members and in revenue. We are helping more people find jobs. We are helping more companies find the talented people they need to grow. We have expanded our own industry reach. We’re now serving aerospace companies, mining companies, massive civil construction projects, and others in addition to our mainstay companies in offshore energy and maritime.

The key to our current success is our Commitment to Growth. The world around you can fall apart, but it can’t keep you from growing.
